Storm and Power Outage

Our electricity was out for over 72 hours this week.  It sucked ass.

There was the stocked refrigerator, half of which went to a friend’s freezer across town, the other half in the garbage.

There was the lack of A/C in 90 degree heat, which made sleeping through the night a real delight.

There was a secondary storm on Thursday night that caused our basement to completely flood.  Our sump pump is usually a superstar, but go figure, it runs on electricity.  We had to rent a gas powered pump to get the water level down, because it was coming real close to the furnace, hot water heater, washer and dryer.

Oh and there was the damage from the initial storm.  More gigantic limbs down, this time in the side yard.  Which we couldn’t clean up until yesterday because…wait for it…the chainsaw we bought is electric.

The power came back on Friday around 9pm, to cheers up and down the street from our neighbors all in the same boat.  There are still around 7,000 houses in Knoxville right now without power.  And another big thunderstorm is rolling through.

With as many scary storms we’ve had this year, I’m starting to think that this planet wants us out of here.

  1. Wow, I’m sorry! I didn’t realize it was so bad. Sometimes I actually miss summer storms and power outages– as a kid it just meant board-games and flashlights. I guess yours makes me think twice…

At least you and Danny are handy at home repairs and such.
